Brothers Union

Brothers Union Football Club a name synonymous with passion and perseverance in Bangladeshi football—was established in 1949 in Gopibagh, Dhaka. Backed by local businessmen, this historic club has played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s football landscape. Fondly known as “The Oranges,” Brothers Union gained prominence during the late 1970s and early 1980s, standing as a formidable force alongside Abahani Limited Dhaka and Dhaka Mohammedan.

Under the legendary guidance of coach Abdul Gafur Baloch, who led the team from 1972 to 1986, Brothers Union became renowned for nurturing young talent and developing future stars. The club’s rise began with consecutive promotions from the Dhaka Third Division in 1973 and the Second Division in 1974, finally earning a place in the First Division in 1975. Despite their early efforts, Brothers Union had to wait until the 2003–04 season to claim their maiden league title, followed by a second league triumph in 2005.

On the international front, the club made history by winning the Aga Khan Gold Cup in the 1981–82 season, becoming the first and only local club to clinch this prestigious title since Bangladesh’s independence.

Brothers Union were among the founding members of the Bangladesh Premier League in 2007. They maintained their top-flight status for over a decade before being relegated after the 2021–22 season. Despite this setback, the club demonstrated resilience by withdrawing from the Championship League in the subsequent season and returning stronger. Their determination paid off when they secured promotion back to the Premier League as champions of the 2022–23 Bangladesh Championship League.
